‘No longer desperate to sell’ – Man Utd make major Marcus Rashford U-turn after return

Manchester United are reportedly no longer desperate to sell Marcus Rashford after the forward returned to Michael Carrick’s first-team squad.

Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona, but the Spanish club decided not to activate their £26million option to sign him permanently.

His future has remained uncertain throughout the summer. However, the picture has started to change since Carrick brought him back into the senior group.

The Mirror reports that people close to Rashford believe United are no longer pushing strongly for his departure. A permanent move is still possible if the right European club comes forward.

Marcus Rashford Man Utd future takes fresh turn

Rashford’s own stance could limit the number of realistic destinations.

The 28-year-old is reportedly not interested in moving to Saudi Arabia or Turkey. He would only consider joining a European club capable of offering Champions League football.

Barcelona are currently out of the running after allowing their purchase option to expire.

A fee of around £25m could reportedly be enough to open talks. United, though, appear under less pressure to accept an offer simply to move Rashford on.

His return to Carrick’s squad has already provided another sign of that changing situation.

ReadManUtd reported on Sunday night that Rashford has been handed the No.14 shirt. The decision suggests United are preparing for the possibility of him remaining at Old Trafford this season.

Rashford has since travelled to Ireland with Carrick’s group ahead of Wednesday’s friendly against Leeds United.

ReadManUtd’s match preview earlier today highlighted the possibility of the forward making his first United appearance since December 2024.

Such an appearance would represent another significant step in his return to the first-team picture.

There is still plenty of time for his future to change before the transfer window closes. A serious offer from a Champions League club could yet give Rashford another decision to make.

For now, he is back with Carrick’s squad and preparing for the new season as a Manchester United player.
