Marcus Rashford is reportedly excited about working under Michael Carrick and playing for Manchester United again as his remarkable Old Trafford return continues to gather pace.
The 28-year-old is back with the first-team squad following his season-long loan at Barcelona and now appears increasingly open to rebuilding his United career.
Rashford’s future looked uncertain when Barcelona decided against triggering their option to sign him permanently this summer.
The situation has changed significantly since then, with Carrick opening the door for the forward to rejoin his squad.
Marcus Rashford embraces fresh Manchester United chance
According to fresh reporting from The Athletic, relayed by the Manchester Evening News, Rashford is excited by the prospect of working under Carrick and representing United again.
It is another major indication that a permanent departure is no longer inevitable.
ReadManUtd reported on Monday that United were no longer desperate to sell Rashford following his return to Carrick’s group. The forward travelled to Ireland with the squad as he continued his reintegration into the first team.
Carrick has been receptive to giving Rashford another opportunity from the beginning.
ReadManUtd also reported on Sunday that the United head coach had set out a clear plan for his return after confirming the forward would rejoin his team-mates.
The pair already know each other well from Carrick’s playing and coaching spells at Old Trafford. Carrick was still a United player when Rashford broke into the senior side in 2016.
Rashford has spent the last 18 months away from Manchester following loan spells with Aston Villa and Barcelona, but his season in Spain provided evidence that he can still contribute at the highest level.
He returned from Barcelona after producing 25 goal contributions during his loan spell, although the Spanish champions opted not to activate their purchase option.
United have already handed Rashford the No.14 shirt as part of his return, with Matheus Cunha now wearing the No.10. ReadManUtd reported the squad-number change on Sunday.
There is still time for the transfer picture to change before the window closes, but Rashford’s attitude towards his comeback now appears clear.
After a period when his Manchester United career looked finished, both player and manager increasingly appear ready to give the relationship another chance.
