Marcus Rashford training with Manchester United again represents another major step in his unexpected Old Trafford comeback, but the forward is reportedly unlikely to feature against Leeds United on Wednesday night.
The 28-year-old has been pictured working with Michael Carrick’s squad in Ireland after returning from his post-World Cup break.
It is the first time Rashford has trained with United in 19 months, having last worked with the first team in January 2025 before loan spells with Aston Villa and Barcelona.
Marcus Rashford training return comes with Leeds decision
According to The Sun, Rashford is likely to sit out the friendly against Leeds at Croke Park despite linking up with Carrick’s squad.
United have taken a patient approach to his reintegration after an extended break following the World Cup, meaning there is little need to rush him into match action.
His return to training remains significant given how unlikely another United appearance appeared only a few months ago.
ReadManUtd reported on Tuesday that Rashford is excited about working with Carrick and increasingly open to rebuilding his career at Old Trafford.
The latest report adds that the England international is keen to stay and fight for his place, despite interest from elsewhere before the transfer window closes.
United have already handed Rashford the No.14 shirt following his return, with Matheus Cunha now occupying the No.10 previously worn by the academy graduate.
Missing the Leeds game would therefore appear to be about managing his return rather than another setback in his United future.
Carrick has reopened a door that appeared firmly closed last season. Rashford returning to the training pitch is the clearest indication yet that his Manchester United comeback is now moving beyond words.
