Ruben Amorim has made a cheeky Manchester United claim after getting the better of Michael Carrick in AC Milan’s 4-2 pre-season victory.
The former United head coach faced his old club for the first time since being dismissed in January, with Milan coming from behind twice before eventually winning comfortably in Wrocław.
Amorim was in good spirits afterwards and shared a light-hearted exchange with members of the English media before leaving the stadium.
Ruben Amorim makes cheeky Man Utd joke
According to talkSPORT, journalists joked with Amorim about no longer having his eventful Manchester United press conferences to attend.
The Portuguese coach responded by suggesting things at United are now “more boring” without him.
It appeared to be a joke about his famously unpredictable media appearances rather than a serious criticism of Carrick.
Amorim regularly generated headlines during a difficult period at Old Trafford, including several brutally honest assessments of his own team and his refusal to move away from his preferred tactical system.
He later admitted he had made mistakes during his United spell, as ReadManUtd reported following his first major reflection on the job.
Carrick has since taken United in a different direction, abandoning Amorim’s back-three system and guiding the club back into the Champions League.
Saturday nevertheless belonged to the former manager.
United twice led through Harry Maguire and Patrick Dorgu before Milan scored three unanswered second-half goals to complete a 4-2 victory.
Amorim’s move to Italy had already provided United with a clean break from his tenure, with ReadManUtd previously assessing what his AC Milan appointment meant for Carrick’s rebuild.
The result will mean considerably more to Carrick once Premier League points are available.
Amorim, though, was clearly happy to enjoy the moment after beating his former club.
