Manchester United have discovered their eight opponents for the 2026/27 Champions League league phase, with Bayern Munich heading to Old Trafford and Michael Carrick’s side handed a trip to Atletico Madrid.
United will also host Roma, RB Leipzig and Azerbaijani champions Sabah, while away trips to Sporting CP, Villarreal and Como complete their league-phase schedule.
The draw marks United’s return to Europe’s leading club competition, with ReadManUtd explaining how Thursday’s Champions League draw would work ahead of the ceremony in Monaco.

United were placed in Pot 2 for Thursday’s draw and were handed two opponents from each of the four pots.
UEFA confirmed that the 36 league-phase clubs were divided into four pots of nine, with every team playing eight matches, four at home and four away.
United’s eight opponents are:
Home
- Bayern Munich
- Roma
- RB Leipzig
- Sabah
Away
- Atletico Madrid
- Sporting CP
- Villarreal
- Como
Bayern’s visit to Old Trafford provides the headline home fixture, while the trip to Atletico represents another major European night for Carrick’s squad.
Roma will also travel to Manchester, while United face Portuguese giants Sporting CP away from home.
There is an interesting United connection surrounding the trip to Como too. Former Reds defender Willy Kambwala recently joined the Italian side on loan from Villarreal, with ReadManUtd reporting that United retain a sell-on clause from his original departure.
The league phase also includes a home meeting with Sabah, who are making their first appearance at this stage of the competition.
United’s cup schedule is quickly taking shape after they were also drawn at home to Brighton in the Carabao Cup third round earlier on Thursday.
When will Man Utd’s Champions League fixtures be confirmed?
The order shown during Thursday’s draw does not represent the order in which United will play their opponents.
The league phase begins between 8 and 10 September, before continuing through the autumn and winter.
UEFA’s official competition schedule confirms the eighth and final league-phase matchday will take place on 27 January 2027.
The top eight teams in the 36-club table qualify directly for the round of 16, while those finishing from ninth to 24th enter the knockout phase play-offs.
