Manchester United have submitted their 23-man squad list for the Premier League season, with Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro among the names not included.
Their absence doesn’t mean either player has been left out of Michael Carrick‘s plans. Both fall within the age category to fall under the league’s Under-21 rules and can therefore play without being named on the senior squad list.
The Premier League requires clubs to submit their squads after the summer transfer window closes. Players born on or after January 1, 2005, don’t have to be registered, which explains why Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro are not part of the 23.
Who is included in United’s squad?
United’s registered goalkeepers are Karl Darlow, Tom Heaton, Senne Lammens and Dermot Mee.
The defensive options are Patrick Dorgu, Diogo Dalot, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Noussair Mazraoui and Luke Shaw.
In midfield, Carrick has Bruno Fernandes, Carlos Baleba, Mason Mount, Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Manuel Ugarte available on the submitted list.
United’s forwards are Amad, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Marcus Rashford, Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee.
Eight of the 23 players meet the homegrown criteria, with Rashford, Mount and Amad among them.
Manuel Ugarte included despite injury
One of the more interesting names on the list is Manuel Ugarte. The midfielder has been registered despite an injury suffered during the World Cup that could keep him out until next year.
United can change their squad after the January transfer window closes, so this won’t necessarily be the final group for the second half of the campaign.
For now, though, Mainoo and Yoro remain available despite their omission, Michael Carrick has enough talent at his disposal for a massive season ahead.
