Manchester United will assess Patrick Dorgu after the defender suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Denmark against Wales on Sunday.
Patrick Dorgu started the Nations League match but lasted only 30 minutes before being forced off. The 21-year-old pulled up while making a run down the left and immediately appeared to be feeling his hamstring.
Denmark boss Brian Riemer confirmed after the 2-0 victory that Dorgu would leave the squad and return to Manchester United.
“He has an injury and has to go home. A new one has to be called in,” Riemer told TV2 as quoted by Manchester United official site.
Manchester United face anxious wait over Dorgu
The full extent of Dorgu’s injury is not yet known. United are expected to assess him this week, with a scan needed to determine how serious the problem is.
The timing is a concern for Michael Carrick, with United scheduled to host Tottenham Hotspur on October 10. Dorgu could now be a doubt for that game, depending on the results of his assessment.
A minor hamstring problem could keep him out for around two weeks, while a more serious injury could result in a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Manchester United will also be mindful of Dorgu’s previous injury problems. The full-back suffered a significant hamstring issue last season that kept him out from January until April, forcing him to miss 12 matches for club and country, as quoted by Sports Mole.
With the latest setback coming so soon after his return to international duty, United will be hoping the problem is not serious. For now, though, the club face an uncomfortable wait before knowing exactly how long Dorgu could be unavailable.
