Manchester United have been handed an injury boost ahead of the Premier League’s return, and this Man United injury update brings some welcome positivity.
Manchester United are back in action in a week, facing Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday, with kick-off at 5.30 pm.
Carlos Baleba has stepped up his recovery during the extended international break. The £70 million summer signing from Brighton took part in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Lausanne-Sport at Carrington on Friday, arranged because of the lack of fixtures over the last three weeks.
Carlos Baleba is yet to make his United debut. He remains in contention to make his competitive debut for United against Tottenham. Our Baleba debut watch continues.
Benjamin Sesko missed Slovenia fixtures with a shin injury
Benjamin Šeško missed the whole of pre-season through a shin injury and had only just returned when he started the Carabao Cup tie against Brighton. He was taken off in the second half and withdrew from the Slovenia squad soon after. He explained his decision on Instagram.
“I am very sorry that I will have to miss the national team’s upcoming matches. I have always played for Slovenia – and always will – with heart and pride, Right now, the most important thing is to focus fully on my recovery. I am already working on getting back on the pitch as soon as possible to help both the national team and my club once again.”
Patrick Dorgu suffered a setback of his own. The defender was substituted after about half an hour of Denmark’s game against Wales last week and then withdrew from the rest of the international break. According to the MEN injury report, no return date has been given for either player.
Amad on track to train with main group
Amad has not featured all season after an injury suffered on the eve of the Premier League opener against Hull City. His recovery appears to be on track. The United manager said:
“Amad, hopefully, by the time we get back, he will have trained with the group. That’s a positive.”
Kobbie Mainoo pulled out of England duty before the international break began, and his situation is being managed carefully. Both he and Amad have a possible return date against Tottenham, though neither comeback is confirmed.
Baleba’s eventual introduction, after featuring in the closed-door friendly suggest he could still reshape the engine room further, as we explored in Baleba’s midfield impact.
There was a fresh fitness worry during the break too. Noussair Mazraoui was substituted in Morocco’s win over Lesotho on Tuesday, and the severity of the injury is still unknown.
Meanwhile, De Ligt, a long-term absentee with his own back problem, could be closing in on a return. The manager was cautious about setting a timeframe for him. He also featured in the recently played closed-door friendly at Carrington.
“Matta is just working his way back, really. So I don’t want to, because of how it’s been, put too much of a timeframe on it.”
Manuel Ugarte remains out with a knee ligament injury picked up for Uruguay at this summer’s World Cup, and his return date is still unknown. Karl Darlow, meanwhile, had a minor procedure and has not played this season; he withdrew from the Wales squad for this break.
What happens next for Manchester United
United’s Premier League return comes against Tottenham at Old Trafford next Saturday, 10 October, kicking off at 5.30 pm.
Amad, Mainoo, Carlos Baleba, De Ligt and Karl Darlow all have potential return dates for that game. None of those comebacks are confirmed, and this Man United injury update will likely shift again before the weekend.
