Latest Man Utd plans for Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes contract revealed

Manchester United still have work to do on the futures of Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez, but Fabrizio Romano has offered some reassurance over the situation surrounding both players.

Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez are currently under contract until the summer of 2027, although Manchester United have an option to extend both agreements by another year. That means the club is not facing an immediate decision, and Romano says there is still plenty of time to sort out their long-term plans.

Bruno Fernandes is naturally the bigger talking point. The Portugal international remains one of the most important players at Old Trafford, and United are continuing discussions with his representatives over a new contract.

For now, there is no agreement.

“There is still no agreement,” Romano said on the Here We Go Podcast.

“At the moment, I don’t think it’s time to be worried yet for Man Utd fans because there is still plenty of time.”

Bruno Fernandes contract talks have several issues

Romano explained that the Fernandes negotiations are not simply about increasing his salary. The length of a possible new contract and the release clause are also on the table.

The return of Marcus Rashford has added another complication to Bruno Fernandes contract situation. Rashford came back to Manchester United on a significant wage, meaning the club’s salary structure has changed again.

“The salary is a topic, but it’s also about the length of the contract, about the release clause,” Romano explained. There is also reported interest from Juventus and Galatasaray, although United still have control through their option to extend Fernandes’ current contract until 2028.

That does not mean the midfielder’s future is guaranteed, but it gives the club time to negotiate rather than rush into a decision.

Manchester United want to keep Lisandro Martinez

Martinez’s situation is similar on paper, but Romano believes it is less complicated.

The Argentine defender is also under contract until 2027, with United holding an option to extend his deal until 2028. The club remains convinced by the Argentine and still sees him as a leader in the dressing room.

“He’s 28, so at the peak of his experience,” Romano said.

Martinez has endured several injury problems over recent seasons, but that has not changed United’s view of him. Romano says the club still believes he is a top defender and expects talks with his representatives in the coming months.

Unlike Fernandes, Martinez is not currently in advanced negotiations with another club.

That makes his situation relatively calm for now. United still want to discuss a new deal, but there is no sense of an immediate crisis.

United want Fernandes and Martinez to stay; they have options on both contracts, and they are likely to use that option while negotiations continue.

Meanwhile, Fernandes’ future will attract more attention because of his importance and the reported interest from Galatasaray, but neither player appears to be on the verge of leaving Old Trafford.
