Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur return from the international break with plenty to prove when they meet at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Michael Carrick’s side have won just once in their last four domestic matches since beating Ipswich 5-2. A Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton was followed by a loss to 10-man Manchester City, before Manchester United drew with Everton and Fulham. Matheus Cunha’s late equaliser at Fulham rescued a point, but Manchester United still sit 12th.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side are bottom of the Premier League with only two points from their opening five games. Spurs have failed to score in four of those matches, while defeats against Aston Villa and Newcastle have added to the pressure.
Manchester United confirmed lineup vs Tottenham
Michael Carrick has named his starting eleven for the clash at Old Trafford, with Kobbie Mainoo and Youri Tielemans partnering in midfield as United look to get their season back on track.
Senne Lammens starts in goal, with Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw forming the back four. Carrick has opted for Mainoo and Tielemans in the middle, with Amad Diallo, Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha tasked with supporting Bryan Mbeumo up front.
Leny Yoro had a brilliant international break where he made his debut for France. His performance on debut was enough for Zidane to praise the debutant.
Amad, after missing the start of the season with an injury, returns straightaway to the team.
Carlos Baleba starts on the bench and is expected to make his debut today. Marcus Rashford is also on the bench alongside Shea Lacey.
Manchester United starting XI:
Lammens; Yoro, Martinez, Maguire, Shaw; Mainoo, Tielemans; Amad, Bruno Fernandes, Mbeumo; Cunha.
Mbeumo gets his place through the middle, while Amad and Cunha start on the wing after scoring the late equaliser against Fulham. Fernandes will be expected to start producing the numbers from last season after a lackluster start to the season, except against Ipswich, before the international break.
United need a response after a difficult run, but Tottenham arrive under pressure of their own. With both sides desperate for points, the starting lineups set the stage for an important afternoon at Old Trafford.
