In 2011, supporters crowned him United’s greatest ever player. He topped a poll spanning multiple eras with 15 votes, edging George Best on 14 and Bobby Charlton on 13. Paul Scholes and Eric Cantona followed on 11 apiece, with Roy Keane the only other to reach double figures on 10.
The ultimate box-to-box midfielder, there are not many who can top Robson’s time in a United shirt.
The Captain Marvel of Old Trafford

Bryan Robson arrived in 1981 from West Bromwich Albion for a British record £1.5 million, and it did not take long for United fans to understand why. By 1982, he wore the captain’s armband. That same season, he lifted his first trophy, driving United to a 4-0 victory over Brighton in the FA Cup final replay.
The former England skipper could have etched his name into history as the first FA Cup final hat-trick scorer since Stan Pearson—an achievement that still stands unmatched. Instead, he selflessly handed the penalty to Arnold Muhren in the 60th minute.
Robson’s defining performance arrived in 1984. Trailing 2-0 on aggregate against Barcelona in the Cup Winners’ Cup quarter-final second leg, he seized control, dragging United to a 3-0 victory on a night Old Trafford still reveres.
Robson finally claimed league glory in the 1992/93 season. It was a fitting reward for years of unwavering service.
Bryan Robson – Trophies and team success
Had Robson emerged a decade later, his medal haul would likely have shimmered even brighter. Even so, his honours still command respect.
Robson secured two Premier League titles—including the inaugural crown—three FA Cups, two Charity Shields, and the 1990/91 Cup Winners’ Cup, a trophy that holds a special place in United folklore.
Individually, he matched that excellence. He earned six selections to the PFA Team of the Year, claimed a place in the PFA Team of the Century, and captured Goal of the Season in 1985/86.
