Spurs man ‘desired’ United switch

Tottenham Hotspur captain and French international goalkeeper has stated that he would have like to have moved to Manchester United this summer.

The 28-year-old, who joined the north London side in 2012 from Lyon, has made 122 appearances for Spurs, with 102 coming in the Premier League.

Speaking about the transfer window ahead of his international side’s clash with Portugal in the UEFA European Championship qualifiers, Lloris said this (via the Daily Star):

“There could have been a development there but the desired movement [to Manchester United] didn’t happen.”

The Frenchman could have been brought in to replace David de Gea, who looked set to join Spanish giants Real Madrid, but the deal fell through on Spain’s transfer deadline day due to late submission of the necessary paperwork; with United and Madrid both blaming each-other for the collapse of the transfer.

United were set to acquire Keylor Navas from Madrid as part of the deal for de Gea, who has now been named in United’s Champions League squad, but Navas was thought to be keen to stay at Madrid so it is possible that van Gaal targeted Lloris as a plan B, had Navas not been persuaded to make the move to Old Trafford.
