Former Manchester United striker Dion Dublin has urged his old club to make a serious move for Harry Kane, insisting the England captain remains one of the safest goalscorers in football.
Harry Kane is now in his 30s, but Dublin believes that should not stop Manchester United from approaching. The former striker argued that Kane’s intelligence and movement mean he does not need to rely on pace or constant running to remain a major threat.
“Even at 33, 34, 35, I’d still nick Harry for a year or two because he just finds his way into good positions,” Dublin said, as quoted by Football365.
“You put the ball there and he doesn’t even have to run about as much.”
Why Dublin thinks Kane still has what United need
Dublin also pointed to the way Kane has developed his game. Rather than simply staying high up the pitch, the striker has become comfortable dropping deeper and influencing play from different areas.
“You can see he’s dropping into the number 10 role a bit more, sometimes even into the four, and spraying balls about so he’s not easy to mark,” Dublin explained.
“Two centre-halves don’t know where he is, and then he crops up.”
That trait, similar to what Wayne Rooney had towards the end of his Manchester United career, is a major part of Dublin’s argument. He sees Kane as capable of creating chances as well as finishing them, making him difficult for defenders to track.
Dublin went even further, saying Kane would walk into any Premier League team.
“He’s a very clever footballer. I would take Harry Kane right now at Man Utd. There’s a bit of a statement in this, Harry Kane could start in any Premier League side.”
Manchester United need to stop talking and sign Kane
With United’s need for goals as the reason, the decision should be straightforward. Dublin believes the club has discussed Kane enough and should simply make the move if they genuinely want him.
“United have toyed with it, they’ve spoken about it too much. If you want him, go get him.”
Dublin accepts that the transfer would require a significant fee, but believes it would be justified because of what Kane guarantees in front of goal.
“Even if he signs a new deal there, give them the 70 or 80 million, whatever they want, because you’ve got to get goals.”
He placed Kane alongside the very best proven goalscorers in world football, naming Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski and Kylian Mbappe among the few players who offer that same level of certainty.

Harry Kane is a proven goalscorer, but his age is a major hurdle that comes with a pricey tag. While he is a short-term solution, United’s struggles need to be sorted for the long term. Rio Ferdinand also called earlier for signing an experienced forward and named Karim Benzema. However, United needs to weigh their options in the market to find a long-term solution to support Benjamin Sesko.
