Ronaldo dreams of retiring at Madrid

Be they based on extreme hope or reliable fact, there are always suggestions, particularly in and around transfer windows, that Cristiano Ronaldo may one day return to Manchester United – but the days of that being even a slight possibility may now be over.

Speaking to Spanish media giants and Real Madrid empathisers MARCA about his recent collection of a fourth European Golden Shoe Ronaldo crushed the dreams of many United fans:

“As I have said many times, my dream is to retire here at Real Madrid because I feel good, I feel useful, and want to continue”.

To the more realistic of us, this was always going to be the way Ronaldo’s career would pan out – but for the more optimistic United fan, the last thing they’d want to hear is the words “dream”, “retire” and “Real Madrid” come out of Cristiano’s mouth in one sentence.

The mercurial Portuguese international left United in 2009 after much speculation that he’d end up playing for the Spanish giants, who are the most successful team in European football history.
