It has been revealed in The Telegraph that Manchester United are keen on bringing Newcastle forward Ayoze Perez to the club and are preparing a bid for the January transfer window.
The Spaniard has also caught the attention of Premier League rivals Tottenham and Arsenal but it is Manchester United who are the most enthusiastic about bringing Perez to the club, having monitored his progress since he moved from Tenerife last year.
It is rumored that Man United are looking to bolster their attacking options in the January transfer window and scouts have been sent to watch the young Spaniard in action, with positive reports finding their way to Old Trafford.
Louis van Gaal’s current tactics are seeing the team struggle to convert their possession into attacking chances and ultimately goals, leading to heavy criticism towards the manager’s approach to football.
The logical approach to the conundrum would be for Manchester United to sign strikers in January, and Perez would most likely be unable to refuse the prestigious club’s offer.
However, it is Newcastle that pose the biggest problem currently with their reluctance to sell mid-season, the fact they describe themselves as “hard sellers”, and their lowly position in the table. All three factors could see a potential move halted as the team currently sit in 17th position, just outside of the relegation zone.
Perez arrived in the Premier League in the summer of 2014, from Secunda Division side CD Tenerife, for a fee of £1.7 million.
The youngster’s best performances have been alongside another striker or just behind one, which could make an Ayoze an appealing and intriguing option in van Gaal’s 4-2-3-1 formation, due to his versatility.
Perez season has to be judged relatively speaking due to Newcastle’s poor performances this season, but when chances have fallen to the Spanish striker they have rarely gone amiss, including a clinical strike against Bournemouth over the weekend, the team’s only shot on target in a game which was dominated by The Cherries.
