Manchester United have been linked to plenty of wingers over the last few seasons – with names like Nicolas Gaitan, Riyad Mahrez and Cristiano Ronaldo all mentioned. Another name that has been floated is Southampton’s Saido Mane – and the Red Devils could face competition from German champions Bayern Munich.
The Telegraph are reporting that Pep Guardiola is keeping tabs on the Senegal winger, who United failed with a bid for in the last transfer window. The 23-year-old Southampton man has a contract until 2018, so Southampton have no desire to sell him any time soon.
Bayern are struggling with injuries on the flanks; Frank Ribery and Arjen Robben have both been sidelined. Guardiola does have Douglas Costa and on-loan Juventus man Kingsley Coman at his disposal, but he’s looking for more strengthin-depth as his side look to regain the Champions League title from Barcelona, and keep hold of their Bundesliga crown.
United meanwhile, have been struggling for goals, having only scored six throughout November. They need to beat VfL Wolfsburg to guarantee a spot in the Champions League last-16 – and if they manage it, Mane won’t be cup-tied for any 2016 Champions League matches that they play, should they sign him in the January transfer window.
