United Plot Swoop for ‘Galacticos’

After yet another 0-0 draw, Louis Van Gaal has admitted that United need to add more star quality to their squad in order to compete with Europe’s finest once again.

When questioned about his side’s Champions League credentials, the Dutchman stated:

I don’t think that we are able to win the Champions League now. Maybe next year, when we strengthen our selection again, but now we have come as far as possible.

The Red Devils are currently just three points off top spot, but their league position belies what has been a highly frustrating few months for the Old Trafford faithful.

However, this spending does not look to decrease anytime soon as The Mirror report that United are looking to bring one of Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale to the club, in order to regain the explosiveness the current side is missing.

Of these, Ronaldo is the most probable as the Portuguese international has never ruled out a return to his old stomping ground and as he ages, his time to make a final significant career move, is quickly dwindling.

However, Ronaldo is approaching his 31st birthday and would demand an extraordinary wage package should he choose to return to the North West.

Denis Doyle/Getty Images SportFor this reason, United’s best bet may be the other Real Madrid winger, Gareth Bale, who has been strongly linked with a return to the Premier League for over a year now.

Having already experienced success in the Premier League with Tottenham, Bale would be a safer option than the lightweight Neymar and would be much more financially viable than his Madrid counterpart.

Despite this, any one of the trio would add much-needed invention to the United attack, and should definitely be a step in the right direction towards bringing trophies back to Old Trafford once again.
