United Target Genoa Keeper
As reported by Gianlucadimarzio.com, Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin has become a transfer target for Manchester United should two-time player of the year David De Gea leave for Real Madrid.
The Italian international has played 84 times for his current employers and his excellent form has seen him been touted as a long-term replacement for the evergreen Gianluigi Buffon in the national team.
Perin has made one appearance for the Azzurri so far, completing the step up after appearing at every youth level. Despite making just the one appearance for his national side, Perin has been in the squad regularly of late and training with Buffon and Salvatore Sirigu have undoubtedly had a positive effect on the youngster.
Whilst the interest is there from Manchester United, no concrete offer has been made as yet. The website reported that the English giants sent a scout to watch the 23-year-old against winless Hellas Verona on Sunday. The game finished 1-1, with Perin being the busier of the two keepers.
Genoa’s number one possesses some similar attributes to Manchester United’s Spaniard, rapid reflexes, being quick off his line and a taste for the theatrical have contributed to some jaw-dropping saves in the heavily-worked Genoa goal.
The 6ft 2″ stopper has time on his side, and may well need it if he is to develop into the goalie he has the potential to be. Occasional rash decision making is a part of his game and will need to be ironed out if he wants to be a regular for Italy and play for any top club side.
A deal is in the embryonic stages as things stand however come the summer, Manchester United may have to act quickly to secure his services as The Telegraph have reported that Jürgen Klopp has targeted Perin as a replacement for the much maligned Simon Mignolet.
