Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen believes that the Red Devils are the only club that Ryan Giggs can manage.
Giggs, who made 963 appearances for United during an illustrious career at Old Trafford, is currently Louis van Gaal’s assistant manager and is one of the frontrunners to succeed the Dutchman at the end of his tenure with United.
And Meulensteen, who was a key part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s coaching staff during the Scotsman’s incredible period in charge of United, believes that the 42-year-old is the prime candidate to take charge after van Gaal.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, he said:
I’ve had a few conversations with him and I said to him, ‘The only club you can manage is Manchester United because everything you move away from is so foreign to you.’
Because I’ve had my own experiences in that respect and you suddenly realise, ‘Jesus, how different is this?’ And that’s what Sir Alex Ferguson installed over so many years, and you have to taste those ingredients to understand what it’s like.
His biggest ambition is to carry on at Manchester United and manage Manchester United.
Twitter: #MUFC job would be a “huge challenge, but not impossible” for Ryan Giggs, says former Man Utd coach Rene Meulensteen https://t.co/ucMEtWdDtc (@5liveSport)
One of the advantages Ryan has is, above all, that he knows the club inside out. More than anything, he knows the culture of the club, he’s been a part of every generation that Sir Alex Ferguson built and what sort of parameters were used. However, it’s going to be a huge challenge and job for him to basically having to start where he is. But I don’t think it’s impossible.
With Ryan being at the club for so long, it could be a big, big advantage.
Giggs was absent from the touchline last weekend as United romped to a 3-0 victory against Stoke City due to a family illness, and he is expected to be back alongside van Gaal when United travel to face Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
