‘We All Suffered’: Rasmus Hojlund Opens Up on Man Utd Struggles

Rasmus Hojlund has looked back on his time at Manchester United, admitting that while his first season went well individually, his second campaign was much more difficult.

The Denmark international joined Manchester United from Atalanta and enjoyed a promising first year, finishing as the club’s leading goalscorer and helping the team lift the FA Cup.

Looking back, Rasmus Hojlund does not believe there was one particular reason for his struggles. Instead, he pointed to the changes around the team and the arrival of Ruben Amorim as part of a difficult period.

“I don’t think anything specific went wrong,” Hojlund said. “I arrived at a club with a manager. It was a difficult year, with a lot of injuries, but we won the FA Cup and I was the top scorer.”

Ruben Amorim was complicated for the squad

Hojlund then had to adjust to a new system when Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag. The Danish striker admitted the transition was complicated for the squad, with the players having to adapt to a different style.

“Then we went through a difficult period and Amorim arrived, an excellent coach but with a different style of play,” he added. “The team had to adapt and it was complicated. We all suffered.”

Despite the disappointment of his second season, Hojlund highlighted reaching the Europa League final as a positive memory. He believes victory in that match could have changed how his spell at Old Trafford was viewed.

“My first year was a success, the second was not. But I played in the Europa League final. If we had won it would have been a different story.”

Rasmus Hojlund left United for Napoli after scoring 26 goals in 95 appearances for Manchester United.
