Barcelona could make move for Rojo

Barcelona could reignite their interest for Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo in the summer, according to Spanish paper Sport.

The Spanish champions were previously interested in signing the Argentinian international when he was playing for Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon, before United swooped in and secured a £16 million move for the versatile defender in the summer of 2014.

And Sport believe that Rojo’s good relationship with Lionel Messi, alongside his previously declared support for Barcelona and United’s rebuilding project if José Mourinho takes over in the summer, means that the door is open for the 26-year-old to make a move to the Nou Camp in the summer.

Rojo hasn’t settled as well as United fans would have liked. The Argentinian international was a regular starter in his first season at Old Trafford but has only started ten Premier League games this season after sustaining a shoulder problem in December.

That, added with the impending return of Luke Shaw, means that Rojo could be relegated to the bench and become more of a rotation player for the Reds. That could put his Argentina place in jeopardy, which he currently still retains despite the lack of regular first-team action.

If Barcelona are to go in for Rojo in the summer, Sport believe that they will put utility man Adriano on the market for sale and an offer of around €12 million could tempt United into selling.
