Juventus pull ahead in race for Andre Gomes

Having already missed out on Renato Sanches, who signed for German giants Bayern Munich earlier this week, United may have just been dealt another serious transfer blow.

It is well-known that the Old Trafford club are admirers of Valencia’s 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder, Andre Gomes, but they risk losing out on him to another European heavyweight.

According to Tuttosport, Juventus have made an offer to the Spanish club, and are willing to spend £40 million on the promising midfielder, with £24 million of that fee paid up front, and the rest in add-ons. The Italian site claim that they are in negotiations with Jorge Mendes and want to wrap the deal up soon.

Mendes, of course, is the agent of Gomes, as well as having other Portuguese clients in Cristiano Ronaldo, Ricardo Quaresma, Nani and of course, Jose Mourinho.

If the latter were to become United manager, Jorge Mendes may be more inclined to help United secure more of his clients in the summer transfer window – but with clubs like Bayern and Juventus snapping up promising young talent, Ed Woodward needs to act fast.
