Manchester United centre-back is a target for fellow Premier League side Stoke City – according to the Potters themselves.
Stoke’s assistant manager, Mark Bowen, has let the cat out of the bag when it comes to their transfer plans this summer, admitting that he is well-spirited about his side’s attempts to sign Phil Jones this summer.
Coming via Sky Sports, Bowen has said:
“He’s played the majority of his career at centre-half, but in his younger days he went into midfield as well. “I don’t know what’s gone wrong, but he’s gone from even a player Fergie [Alex Ferguson] was talking about as being someone who could have been one of the greats.” “But we have a bit of reputation for bringing players like that into this set-up and then thriving. Fingers crossed, something may happen.”
Jones, 24, was originally thought to be Jose Mourinho’s first-choice centre-back at United, with the plan looking to be for him to play alongside compatriot Chris Smalling; but Eric Bailly’s monstrous performances and Daley Blind’s composed manner at the back have kept him out of the side thus far – as United have picked up the Community Shield and six out of six Premier League points so far this season.

If Jones were to make a move to the Brittainia Stadium, he’d be joining up with United legend Mark ‘Sparky’ Hughes, who manages Stoke City.
The Welshman was a fantastic midfielder for the Red Devils and may be able to improve upon that aspect of Jones’ play.
