Spurs line up deadline day move for Schneiderlin

UPDATE: Schneiderlin’s agent: “He is staying in Manchester” [Sport Witness]

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen on a move for Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, ahead of Wednesday’s 11pm transfer deadline.

This comes according to Ian Ladyman of the Telegraph. Pochettino was Southampton manager when France international Schneiderlin became a real midfield force in the Premier League – and is now looking at a reunion.

26-year-old Schneiderlin joined United just last summer, but is battling for his Old Trafford career as he looks to force a way into Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven. The arrival of Paul Pogba and upturn in form of Marouane Fellaini have seen Schneiderlin take a back seat at the Theatre of Dreams, alongside Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera, who may now also be ahead of him in the pecking order.

Daley Blind may well slot in ahead of the Frenchman too, once Chris Smalling is back in Mourinho’s defensive line.

According to Ladyman, Pochettino asked his colleagues to inquire on the availablity of Schneiderlin, but United didn’t give him an encouraging response. This is no surprise, with Mourinho having insisted previously that he’s happy with his squad and won’t be looking to shift any more players, with the like of Paddy McNair and Will Keane having left to Premier League opposition already.

According to the exclusive in the Telegraph, Pochettino could return in January for Schneiderlin if he gets no closer to a move for him by the 11pm deadline on Wednesday.
