United among Premier League clubs scouting Charlton defender

Manchester United are among a host of Premier League clubs tracking the progress of young Charlton defender Ezri Konsa, according to the Mirror.

The interest in teenage centre-back’s development has increased dramatically after the 18-year-old broke into Russell Slade’s side after impressing with his performances in pre-season.

Scouts from the likes of United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been regulars at Charlton’s games this season and there is expected to be a big battle for the services of Konsa between the Premier League giants when the transfer window reopens in January.

A number of representatives from the named clubs were once again spotted monitoring Konsa during Charlton’s 1-1 draw against Oldham on Tuesday, where the teenager played the full 90 minutes.

Charlton value Konsa as highly as their last big prospect, Joe Gomez, who was sold to Liverpool for £3.5 million in last summer’s transfer window, so any deal may not come cheaply for the Premier League’s big guns.

Konsa, who signed for Charlton at the age of 12, was a regular for the club’s under-18 and under-21 sides last term and is comfortable playing at centre-back, right-back and in the centre of midfield. He signed a new deal at The Valley last December, committing his future to the Addicks until 2019.
