Manchester United winger Ashley Young has reportedly asked Jose Mourinho for a temporary move away from Old Trafford, in order to secure some first-team football.
This comes according to the Daily Mail, who claim that United are considering the player’s request but do not necessarily intend to make any more changes to their squad during the current transfer window.
The Englishman, who recently made his 150th appearance for the Red Devils, last started a Premier League game in November.
A fan favourite and a very popular figure in the Old Trafford dressing room, Young could still be of great use to his manager in the second half of the season, with United fighting on four fronts – with the FA Cup and Europa League both being good opportunities for squad rotation.
The Portuguese manager has already said this month that goalkeeper Sam Johnstone will be the club’s only outgoing loanee in the current window – so Young may simply have to bide his time for more frequent football.
