  • Mount is on an exorbitant £200,000 per week
  • The English midfielder is extremely prone to injuries
  • Very likely, he will remain a Manchester United player for next season

The Athletic’s Carl Anka has revealed on the Talk of the Devils podcast that he believes Mason Mount will remain a Manchester United player over the course of the summer.

“If you’re any club in the Premier League or in Spain, how can you afford Mason Mount? He’s got a bad injury record over the last few years, he’s on wages between £150k-200k a week,” Anka explained.

“It’s a hard player to justify needing him in paying his wages and stumping up a fee of £30 million, which United would need to break even.

“I’m confident Mount will be a Manchester United player next season because he’s too expensive for any club to buy.”

Mount misses the mark

Joining from Chelsea on 5 July 2023, Mount cost Manchester United a reported £55 million.

In three seasons at the club, he has made just 67 appearances, scoring seven goals and registering two assists.

But it has been his injury record that has made him most notorious.

58 games missed, over 270 days of being out.

He has nearly been out inured for more games than matches he has played for Manchester United.

For comparison, before he joined the Red Devils, Mount had missed just 32 matches over a six season playing career.

Is there any solution?

For now, Manchester United fans have to hope that Mount can stay fit and perform when it matters.

Whilst the Englishman has had limited minutes this season, he has looked lively when coming off the bench and has offered United a different option in attack.

Mount recovers the ball on average 2.4 times per match, and has netted on three separate occasions this season.

It remains unlikely that any club in the top five league would be willing to cough up the £30 million expected for Mount, whilst also agreeing to his lucrative wages.

If he can stay fit, he could become a reliable spark off the bench or even challenge for a starting role.

For now, Manchester United fans just need to hope Mount stays fit, seizes his chances, and proves he can deliver when it matters most.

If he can stay fit, rediscover his form, and perform as he did against Athletic Club in last season’s Europa League semi-final, Manchester United could have yet another game-changer on their hands.
