Turkish transfer journalist Erol Evcen has reported that Galatasaray are currently monitoring Bruno Fernandes’ situation at Manchester United, and the Turkish champions are ready to make a move for the midfielder in the summer transfer window if he decides to leave Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes’s future has lingered in the background over the past year, with Al-Hilal testing that resolve with a £700,000-a-week offer to take him from Manchester United.
He turned it down, choosing to stay at Old Trafford, per The Athletic.
But could a move to Turkey this summer turn Bruno Fernandes’s head?
Could Turkey be the dream destination?
At 31, Bruno has not only dedicated his last six years to Manchester United, he has given the club the very best years of his career.
A steward of the institution, Fernandes has made over 300 appearances for Manchester United, scoring more than 100 goals and registering over 100 assists.
He has lifted two major trophies and claimed the club’s Player of the Year award four times, a marker of both output and consistency.
When he wins it again this year, he sets the record outright.
But despite his legendary status, the midfielder has just one year left on his contract—with United having the option to extend that one more year.
If he does not want to stay at the club, he could be gone as early as this summer.
The likelihood of Fernandes leaving, however, is not high.
Galatasaray may have a star-studded team with the likes of Leroy Sane and Victor Oshimen adorning the Turkish side’s dressing room, but the level of the Turkish Super Lig quite frankly dwarfs in comparison to the Premier League.
What next for Fernandes?
With just eight games remaining in the Premier League season, Bruno Fernandes will not focus on his future; it will be on making history.
The Portuguese midfielder sits on 16 league assists, four shy of tying with Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, five short of breaking their record.
With that in mind, Bruno Fernandes has also emerged as a candidate for the Professional Footballers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year, with Arsenal’s Declan Rice the only player currently ahead of him in the running.
With history beckoning, Bruno Fernandes has the chance to define his legacy at Manchester United.
This offers him the chance to elevate his standing even further at Manchester United.
He may move on in a year or two—that remains part of the conversation.
For now, though, Bruno Fernandes has a season to define.
