“Regrets” – Chelsea Already Want to sell Garnacho as Manchester United decision Proved Right

  • Manchester United ex-winger struggling in London
  • Garnaho unable to prove his wealth for Chelsea
  • Could be moved on this summer already

Former Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has yet to make his move to Chelsea a positive one, and he could already be on the move again this summer.

United fans have been somewhat amused by his struggles at Stamford Bridge. His departure was unceremonious last summer after he insisted on a move to west London.

After lashing out at Ruben Amorim following the UEFA Europa League Final defeat, Garnacho found himself grouped into the ‘bomb squad’ before forcing through a move to Chelsea.

Patience at Chelsea now looks just as thin. Both the board and supporters have started to lose faith, and the club appear ready to cut their losses.

Chelsea Already Consider Garnacho Sale

Former United chief scout Mick Brown suggested the same issues have followed him from Old Trafford. He told Football Insider:

“There were issues with him during his time at Man United that it seems are coming up again now at Chelsea, both on and off the pitch. He never looked completely committed on the pitch, he’s not the sort of player to get his head down, work hard and battle to get into a game.

He added:

“And in the final third, he’s wasteful, he’s not giving anywhere near the end product you would hope for a player who was bought for £40M.”

Garnacho has failed to impress at Chelsea, and it already feels like his time in London is running out.

Time’s up

According to Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips, speaking on his Substack, the Blues are already open to offers from other clubs for the Argentine.

“Chelsea believe that Garnacho would have a lot of suitors willing to basically pay the same fee that they did to sign him last summer. The club apparently believed that the left wing market was dry last summer – but there have been some recruitment regrets from the summer too.”

And this should not come as a surprise to Garnacho. Since signing for Chelsea last August, he has struggled, managing just eight goals and four assists in 36 appearances, including one Premier League goal.

Not terrible on paper, but with half of those goals coming against sub‑par second and third division opposition, the numbers lose a bit of their shine.

It looks thinner still when you break it down: four in the EFL Cup, leaving just one apiece in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, and two in the FA Cup.

For a player who cost £40 million, those stats are simply not good enough. Unfortunately, for Garncho and Chelsea fans, his all-around game has been particularly good.

Garnacho’s performance in front of goal has been underwhelming. From a possible 3.78 expected Premier League goals (xG), he has managed to score just one—a negative xG of 2.78.

Cunha Upgrade Already Pays Off

In place of the disembarked Garnacho, Manchester United turned to Matheus Cunha, and he has already made an impression at Old Trafford.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers forward actually holds slightly worse overall numbers—seven goals and four assists—but, compared with Chelsea’s winger, every one of those contributions has come in the Premier League.

Cunha has delivered when it matters, too, popping up with decisive goals, including winners against Arsenal and Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Garnacho looks set to slide further down the pecking order at Chelsea. With Geovany Quenda arriving this summer—after Chelsea beat United to his signature—the competition only tightens.
