- Manchester United youth prospect prepped for the Premier League
- Just 15-years-old
- JJ Gabriel can become United’s youngest-ever footballer
There is a chance Manchester United’s youth prospect JJ Gabriel could make his debut as early as next season. The 15-year-old has been tearing apart the U18 Premier League, netting 19 goals in 20 games to make him the division’s top scorer.
The second-highest goalscoring 15-year-old is Liverpool’s Joshua Abe, who has scored just eight times.
In 2022, Gabriel joined Manchester United’s youth academy, and last April at the age of just 14 became the youngest-ever player for the U18’s team, scoring twice on his U18 Premier League debut against Leeds United.
And now, there is a chance Gabriel could become the youngest player in the club’s history. Angel Gomes holds the record for the Premier League. The midfielder was just 16 years, 8 months, and 20 days old when he replaced Wayne Rooney on May 21, 2017, against Crystal Palace.
The youngest in all competitions is David Gaskell, who was just 16 years and 19 days when he made his debut on October 24, 1956, in the FA Charity Shield against Manchester City.
Gabriel was born on 6 October, 2010, meaning if he made a Premier League appearance before October 25, 2026, he would smash both records at the same time.
JJ Gabriel First-Team Bound?
According to Steven Railston of Manchester Evening News, “There are plans to give JJ Gabriel an opportunity in the right circumstances next season, so a debut could come in a cup competition. However, he will be old enough to play in the Premier League as well.”
The comparison between Gabriel and Arsenal’s Max Dowman has been unavoidable. The Arsenal teenager contributed to 20 goals last season—yet Gabriel, at just 15, is already surpassing that output.
In all competitions this season, Gabriel has netted 21 times and provided four assists in just 24 games. With a little over 2,000 minutes played, the youngster is averaging a goal contribution every 83 minutes.
Notably, he has already registered two hat-tricks this season—first against Derby County on August 30, and then in a 7–0 demolition of rivals Liverpool on November 29. He will also have a chance to get his hands on his first piece of silverware.
Manchester United are in the FA Youth Cup semi-final, where they face Crystal Palace. Win that, and a final against either Blackburn Rovers or rivals Manchester City will be set.
Could JJ Become the Youngest Goalscorer?
With Gabriel turning 16 on October 5, he would have until mid-December to score in the Premier League—a window that offers not just a debut, but a genuine shot at history.
While, in the grand scheme, it does not define a career—being the youngest goalscorer does not automatically make you the best—it still carries a certain weight, a marker of precocity that follows a player long after the moment has passed.
In six months’ time, we may well have seen Gabriel etch his name into the history of both Manchester United and the Premier League.
