- Manchester United beat Chelsea
- Bruno Fernandes stars once again
- Cole Palmer stumbles once again
Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes has been a catalyst in their team ever since his arrival in 2020. His commitment, alongside his goal-scoring and assisting ability, makes him one of the most dangerous attacking playmakers in the world.
Cole Palmer has begun to resemble the Portuguese sensation since he departed Manchester in favour of Chelsea. This season, there has been a major difference between the pair, with the 23-year-old struggling in London.
In a season where attacking additions have been introduced, the Red Devils have improved drastically, and the change has also been viewed through their captain’s eyes, who has also stepped up his game, showing the difference between the two.
Fernandes a Cut Above Palmer
This season has been one of the 31-year-old’s best seasons ever, with 26 goal contributions across 30 Premier League appearances. The lack of football in other competitions may have played a part in this, but there is no doubt that what we are witnessing from Fernandes is record-breaking.
In this period at the club, where it’s been different for almost anyone to navigate, it’s not been as difficult for the elite playmaker, who has, by far, been United’s best player since he moved to England.
Just looking at the past five games, Fernandes has registered at least a goal contribution in each one, while in four of them, they have been influential to important points at this stage of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Palmer has had little impact on recent games, and the Blues have begun to fall down the table. Many Chelsea fans question the impact his teammates have, but for a player who lit up the league a few seasons ago, he should be doing more.
Liam Rosenior’s side has lost four on the bounce, and last night’s 1-0 defeat to the Reds made clear the 23-year-old’s creativity has gone glaringly missing this season, with just four goals against the top 10.
Palmer will need to soon return to form ahead of a World Cup in which there’s no certainty he’ll make Thomas Tuchel’s squad. Fernandes, meanwhile, is seen as the talisman for Portugal.
Bruno Magic Leads to Stamford Bridge Win
Michael Carrick’s side might not have produced a performance that laid down a marker and showed exactly why they are back in Champions League contention. But they bounced back from a home defeat to Leeds United.
United came away with three points courtesy of a Matheus Cunha winner in the first half. Fernandes inevitably set him up with a sensational low-driven cross.
That win means third-placed United moved 10 points clear of sixth-placed Chelsea in the hunt for Champions League football. It also moved Fernandes to within two assists of Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne’s joint record of assists in a single season.
