- Manchester United eyeing Morgan Rogers
- Aston Villa man is in high demand
- Cole Palmer has been linked with the Reds
Manchester United are reportedly one of four “most genuine” suitors for Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers. The English star looks increasingly likely to be on the move this summer.
Rogers is enjoying a superb season at Villa Park, thriving in Unai Emery’s team. He’s appeared 48 times across competitions, posting 12 goals and nine assists.
United’s main priority this summer is signing at least one new holding midfielder ahead of Casemiro’s departure. But they appear to be right in the mix to sign Rogers.
Man United In Race For Rogers
According to talkSPORT, United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are the main contenders to sign Rogers. The 23-year-old isn’t adverse to moving abroad as PSG have entered the race for the former Manchester City man.
Rogers holds a good relationship with Emery and Villa’s higher-ups and it’s suggested that they won’t stand in his way if he wishes to move on. He signed a new one-year contract extension last summer and his club are thought to be asking for over £80m.
Where United might hold an advantage over other interested clubs is Rogers’ past relationship with Jason Wilcox and Michael Carrick. Wilcox helped oversee his development at City while Carrick coached him at Middlesbrough.
Rogers’ versatility might be enticing the club to make a move for him, as he can play on the left and in midfield. While Bruno Fernandes is almost certain to remain at Old Trafford this summer, the Portuguese playmaker will need replacing in the long run.
Rogers Better Option Than Palmer
United have been linked with Chelsea’s Cole Palmer over the past months amid speculation over the English attacker’s situation at Stamford Bridge. There were claims that the former City youngster was ‘homesick’ and ‘open’ to joining the Reds.
Palmer has since come out and denied this and insisted he’s happy in west London. But his demeanour says otherwise, putting in frustrating displays throughout the season.
The 23-year-old is a magical footballer on his day, but he has been extremely unconvincing this season. Injuries haven’t helped, but for a player supposedly one of the very best in Europe, he has left much to be admired when on the pitch.
Rogers, meanwhile, is enjoying his best season to date at Villa, becoming Emery’s talisman. He seems to have the warrior-esque attitude that has made fans fall in love with Matheus Cunha.
The Brazilian is part of the reason United are much better off signing Rogers than Palmer. It’s clear that a new winger is needed on the left rather than on the right with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo sharing the latter position.
