- Manchester United growing confident over Aurelien Tchouameni
- Real Madrid star now a real target
- Frenchman could replace Casemiro
Manchester United are reportedly growing more optimistic about bringing Aurelien Tchouameni to Old Trafford. The Real Madrid midfielder recently emerged as one of the club’s potential Casemiro replacements.
Tchouameni is one of Europe’s most highly regarded holding midfielders and has been a mainstay of the Madrid team over the years. The Frenchman has appeared 45 times across competitions this season, posting two goals and as many assists.
It came as somewhat of a surprise when initial reports linked United with the 26-year-old. He has over two years left on his contract and seems content in the Spanish capital.
Manchester United Optimistic Over Tchouameni
United don’t look likely to land Elliot Anderson as the Nottingham Forest midfielder is prioritising a move to Manchester City. That might be why INEOS are now switching their focus to Tchouameni.
It appears that the Madrid man is becoming their top target. Andy Mitten claims on the Talk of the Devils podcast that the club feel a deal is possible:
“Manchester United now believe Aurélien Tchouameni is gettable. They believe he has the right qualities to replace Casemiro.”
Signing Tchouameni would be a massive statement of intent, and you could argue he’s even better than Anderson. His all-around game makes him one of the most dominant midfielders in European football.
United hold a good relationship with Madrid having bought both Raphael Varane and Casemiro from the La Liga giants. This could work in the Reds’ favour should they indeed try to sign the France international.
Tchouameni Should Now Be Priority
If United think Tchouameni is “gettable”, he should be placed at the top of their wishlist. He has everything you want from a Casemiro heir, albeit not quite as prolific as the veteran Brazilian.
But he boasts a more energetic profile and could be ideal to slot in next to Kobbie Mainoo. He has valuable experience playing at the highest level, something the likes of Anderson and other targets on INEOS’ list lack.
Tchouameni has won the Champions League and La Liga title at the Santiago Bernabeu. He’s a winner, and it’s the type of signing that takes United to the next level ahead of a likely return to Europe’s elite club competition.
While a fee hasn’t been mentioned, you’d expect Madrid to be asking for over £80m which was the amount they paid AS Monaco for him back in July 2022. That’s by no means cheap but for a player of the Frenchman’s calibre, it’s well worth it.
