  • Already playing for Germany’s U18S
  • How has he fared this season?

Hamburg-born Noah Ajayi may only be 17, but he has already taken youth football by storm. The Manchester United starlet operates comfortably off either flank or through the middle, and has forced his way into the U18 setup this season.

Last year, on 11 April 2025, Ajayi made his debut for the U21s, coming off the bench in the 84th minute of a 4-1 win against Reading. Just a day later, he followed that up with his U18 debut—again introduced in the 84th minute—in a 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.

This season, however, the German-born forward has truly excelled, scoring seven goals in 22 appearances and playing a key role in guiding Manchester United to their first FA Youth Cup final since 2022, where they will face rivals Manchester City.

Ajayi’s season so far

Called up to Germany’s U18 side during the March international break, the national team has already moved decisively to secure Ajayi’s long-term future.

Eligible to represent Germany through birth, Nigeria through his parents, and England through residency, Ajayi finds himself in a familiar modern tug-of-war—and Germany have wasted little time in making their move.

Much like Jamal Musiala, Ajayi was born in Germany before relocating to England at a young age.

“I moved to England with my parents to play football here at Manchester and to finish my schooling,” Ajayi said to Frankfurt-based newspaper Hanz Kurier.

He made his full debut for Germany U18S in a 2-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Though substituted early, the occasion clearly meant plenty. He later took to Instagram, writing: “Honoured to have made my debut.”

But it is not just at the international level where Ajayi has caught the eye.

FACT: Noah Ajayi scored a brace in a 6-1 victory against Derby County U18 in February 2026.

His FA Youth Cup displays have significantly elevated his profile. While his return of two goals in four matches is respectable, it was his performance against Sunderland in the quarter-finals that truly stood out.

Under the lights at Old Trafford, Ajayi stole the spotlight—opening the scoring with a thunderous strike from 25 yards. In a match where much of the attention centred on JJ Gabriel, Ajayi reminded everyone of the depth emerging from Carrington, earning man-of-the-match honours in the process.

Senior Debut on Horizon?

It remains unlikely that Ajayi will feature before the end of the current season. However, with pre-season fast approaching, he is well-placed to be included in the squad for the European tour.

For his senior debut, however, it may take some time. Ajayi is excelling, no doubt—but he is not yet the finished article, and the club are unlikely to rush his development before he turns 18.

That said, towards the latter stages of next season, there is a realistic pathway. Whether through cameo appearances or early-round cup fixtures against lower opposition, the groundwork is being laid.

If his current trajectory holds, it may not be long before Ajayi makes that step.
