- Man Utd eyeing Igor Thiago
- Reds could swoop if Joshua Zirkzee leaves
- Brentford striker on INEOS’ radar
Manchester United could turn to Igor Thiago if Joshua Zirkzee leaves the club this summer. The Brentford striker has enjoyed an incredible season at Brentford.
According to Ben Jacobs speaking to The United Stand, United are exploring the market for older and more experienced frontmen. But there are one or two exceptions and one of those is Thiago.
The 24-year-old finished second behind Erling Haaland in the Golden Boot race. He registered 22 goals in 38 league games, thriving at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Man Utd eye Igor Thiago
Thiago, dubbed ‘irrepressible’, has been at Brentford since July 2024, when he arrived from Club Brugge in a £30m deal. He sat out most of the 2024-25 campaign due to a knee injury but was an ever-present for the Bees this term.
Such has been his impact this season that he helped Keith Andrews’ side to a ninth-placed finish. The west Londoners missed out on Europe on goal difference.
That could work in United’s favour if they were to move for the Brazilian. Michael Carrick’s Reds finished third, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, a competition he’ll undoubtedly dream of playing in.
For now, it seems the club are just an admirer, and there’s no sign that they will make a move for the Brazil international. He will likely raise his price tag this summer after being selected for Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup squad.
Replacing Zirkzee
United need to show ambition and back Carrick with signings that get the team back into title contention. Selling Zirkzee and replacing him with Thiago would do just that.
Thiago has proven he can flourish in the English top-flight and he’d be a perfect addition to the squad. Benjamin Sesko needs better competition and a forward partner who can help in the goalscoring department.
It appears that Zirkzee’s future is crucial in any potential pursuit of the Brazilian. But the Dutch attacker is reportedly up for sale amid a dissapointing spell at Old Trafford.
