Manchester United are preparing for Ederson’s formal arrival to slide into July, creating an early integration issue for Michael Carrick before his first full pre-season as permanent head coach.

According to The Irish Sun, United have agreed a £35million deal with Atalanta for the Brazil midfielder, but will not make a formal announcement until after Brazil’s World Cup involvement ends.

Carrick Faces A Short Midfield Runway

Ederson has already become one of United’s most important summer pieces because Carrick’s midfield rebuild needs legs, ball-winning range and Champions League-level security. The issue is timing, not appetite.

Players involved deep into an international tournament are normally granted a mandatory post-tournament break. That could rule Ederson out of the first two friendlies against Wrexham on July 18 and Rosenborg on July 24, leaving Carrick to begin structural work without the midfielder expected to anchor it.

United have already confirmed their players return to Carrington from July 9, underlining how compressed the schedule is before August’s more serious preparation block. For context, ReadManUtd has previously tracked how the Ederson transfer became tied to Brazil’s World Cup calendar.

For Carrick, the priority is clear: get the deal over the line, then accelerate Ederson’s tactical education before the Premier League opener. United can live with a delayed unveiling; they cannot afford a slow midfield assimilation.
