Bournemouth’s contract push for Alex Scott has handed Manchester United a sharp warning over the cost of waiting in an inflated midfield market.
The Sun reports that the Cherries want to negotiate fresh terms with the 22-year-old, who is entering the final two years of his current deal and has generated interest from United.
The report states Bournemouth are prepared to include a release clause, having used a similar mechanism in Antoine Semenyo’s agreement before his move to Manchester City.
That matters for Michael Carrick because United have already been tracking multiple midfield options. Scott has previously been framed as part of the same wider conversation as West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
Read Man Utd has already assessed how Mateus Fernandes’ transfer situation has put United under pressure, and Bournemouth’s stance now creates another decision point.
Scott Clause Could Shift United’s Midfield Plan
The issue is not simply admiration. A release clause would offer future clarity, but it may also formalise a valuation beyond the level United can sensibly chase while other midfield targets remain active.
talkSPORT has reported that Bournemouth value Scott at around £80m amid wider Premier League interest, with the club keen to keep him after historic European qualification.
Scott’s profile is obvious: press-resistant, Premier League-tested and still young enough to grow into a long-term Old Trafford role.
Bournemouth’s contract move is designed to make that potential expensive. United now have to decide whether Scott is a priority, or a name they keep warm while the market moves without them.
