Manchester United have been handed a clearer route in the race for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha after Newcastle United reportedly stepped away from the summer pursuit.
According to FootballTransfers, Newcastle are no longer willing to meet the level required for Nmecha, whose 2027 release clause is understood to be worth around €70 million. Dortmund, however, would demand closer to €100 million to sell this year.
The update matters because United’s midfield search has already become crowded.
The club have been tracking several profiles after missing out on Elliot Anderson, while previous Nmecha contact showed the Dortmund man had already entered the Old Trafford conversation.

Nmecha’s World Cup form has sharpened that interest rather than softened the price. He made 42 appearances and notched up five goals and three assists across all competitions in 2025/26, while his Germany displays have pushed him back into a more expensive bracket.
That leaves United with a familiar calculation: move early before another Premier League rival returns, or refuse to let a tournament spike dictate the budget.
Dortmund’s stance is the real pressure point. Unless that valuation drops, Nmecha looks less like a straightforward alternative and more like another test of how far United are willing to stretch for a Champions League-level midfield rebuild.
