Harry Kane’s route back onto Manchester United’s striker radar has narrowed after Bayern Munich moved towards fresh contract talks with the England captain.
The 32-year-old has been linked with Manchester United and Barcelona, but Bayern are preparing concrete negotiations over a new deal once his World Cup campaign ends.
SportBible reports that Kane has been linked with both clubs, but Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg says Bayern are planning talks after the tournament.
Plettenberg reported on X that a Bayern contract until 2029 is on the table and that the chances of an extension are currently viewed as strong.
That makes United’s striker dream harder to build around.
Kane Form Makes Manchester United Dream Harder
The timing is awkward for United because Kane’s leverage has only increased.
The Guardian’s live report recorded Kane’s late double as England came from behind to beat DR Congo 2-1 in Atlanta and reach the World Cup last 16.
Kane remains the obvious elite solution on paper. He would give Michael Carrick a proven finisher, a Champions League-level reference point and a dressing-room standard-setter in one signing.
Read Man Utd has already covered how United’s striker planning has been shaped by Carrick’s need for control and certainty. Kane would sit at the top of that logic, but Bayern’s stance changes the tone of the chase.
Unless Kane actively resists fresh terms after the tournament, United are not looking at an opportunistic market opening. They are looking at a premium, politically difficult deal for a player Bayern still see as central to their next cycle.
For United, that points back to discipline. Kane remains the dream. The summer plan cannot depend on Bayern letting that dream breathe.
