Andre Onana is closing in on a second straight loan move to Trabzonspor, giving Manchester United fresh clarity on their goalkeeper planning before Michael Carrick’s squad returns to Carrington.
talkSPORT reports that the Turkish club are set to take Onana on a one-year loan worth around £1.2m to United, with no purchase option included in the agreement.
Fabrizio Romano also reported that the deal has been signed, with the loan fee rising to £1.3m based on performances and Trabzonspor covering the majority of Onana’s wages.
The update follows ESPN’s report last week that United were close to agreeing a fresh Trabzonspor deal. ESPN also reported in May that United had told Onana’s representatives he was not part of their plans for next season.
Onana spent last season in Turkey and became a regular for Trabzonspor, helping them win the Turkish Cup.
The fresh loan does not give United the permanent break they may ultimately want. But it removes a major wage and squad-management issue from Carrick’s immediate pre-season agenda.
With Senne Lammens established as No.1 and Tom Heaton retained for another year, another Onana exit points to a ruthless goalkeeper reset rather than a late reintegration.
Read Man Utd previously assessed why Onana’s route back had become increasingly difficult. This move now keeps that difficult transfer file moving while protecting the cleaner hierarchy Carrick wants before the Champions League schedule starts to bite.
