Manchester United have a fresh reason to monitor Mason Greenwood’s market after Atletico Madrid were credited with interest in the Marseille forward.
Yahoo Sports, carrying L’Equipe’s report, says Atletico have made an enquiry for Greenwood as Diego Simeone considers attacking options.
For United, the issue is financial rather than sporting.
Greenwood left Old Trafford for Marseille in 2024, with The Telegraph reporting at the time that United had secured a 50% sell-on clause on any future profit.
That means any serious move from Spain would be watched closely at Old Trafford. Interest is not an offer, and Marseille remain in control of the player’s valuation, but Atletico’s involvement adds a firmer edge to the market.
United’s summer already contains several expensive decisions, particularly around the goalkeeper department and midfield. Read Man Utd has previously looked at how Andre Onana’s loan situation could shape the club’s wider squad planning.
A Greenwood sell-on payment would not transform the window on its own. It could, however, give United a useful financial lift if Marseille receive a significant bid.
For now, it is a situation to monitor rather than a deal to expect.
