Manchester United Progress With Thirty Five Million Pound Ederson Deal

Manchester United’s move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson remains on track, despite a fresh medical delay around the proposed £35m deal.

The Sun report that United want the Brazil international to undergo a second medical in the UK before formally completing the transfer. Personal terms are said to be agreed, with the first stage of checks already carried out in the United States.

That makes this a delay rather than a collapse. TeamTalk also carried Fabrizio Romano’s update that the deal remains fully agreed, with the final medical stage still to be completed before the announcement.

Brazil’s World Cup exit could now accelerate the process. Reuters reported that Norway knocked Brazil out with a 2-1 last-16 win, ending Ederson’s tournament involvement.

Michael Carrick Waits On Final Ederson Checks

For Michael Carrick, the timing matters.

United’s midfield rebuild has already been pulled in different directions this summer. ReadManUtd has covered how Elliot Anderson’s Manchester City move forced United into a midfield reset, while Mateus Fernandes’ Tottenham switch removed another possible route.

Ederson now looks like the deal Carrick needs to get over the line. He made only two brief substitute appearances at the World Cup, but United are still applying caution before signing off a major midfield investment.

That caution is sensible. A second medical is not ideal for momentum, but it is better than rushing a player into a long-term contract without complete checks.

ReadManUtd has also looked at how Carrick’s midfield rebuild needs clearer balance around Kobbie Mainoo. Ederson would help that picture by giving United an aggressive, athletic midfielder who can protect space and still carry the ball forward.

The key point is that this is being framed as the final hurdle. With Brazil out and the paperwork already prepared, United now need the UK medical completed quickly so Carrick can begin integrating one of his main summer signings.
