Manchester United can now formally register Cristian Orozco after the Colombian midfielder celebrated his 18th birthday on Monday.
United agreed a deal with Fortaleza CEIF last year but had to wait until 13 July 2026 to complete the international transfer.
FIFA rules generally prevent English clubs from registering overseas players before they turn 18.
The Manchester Evening News reports that Orozco has already arrived in Manchester and is expected to be announced as a United player this week.
The deal is worth around $1m, approximately £750,000, and was coordinated by United’s lead South American scout Giuseppe Antonaccio.
Orozco set to begin with United Under-21s
Orozco is expected to join United’s Under-21 squad rather than move directly into Michael Carrick’s senior plans.
The defensive midfielder will be assessed by the club’s coaches at Carrington as he adapts to English football and a new country.
ReadManUtd previously examined how Orozco’s arrival reflects United’s longer-term midfield recruitment strategy.
The teenager captained Colombia at Under-17 level and attracted United’s attention through his ball-winning ability, physical strength and positional discipline.
Comparisons with Chelsea midfielder Moisés Caicedo have emerged because of his combative playing style. United will still be careful not to place immediate first-team expectations on him.
Carrick’s senior midfield rebuild is being handled separately, with United pursuing established options capable of contributing next season.
Orozco instead represents a low-cost investment in potential. His birthday has now removed the final administrative barrier, allowing United to begin the next stage of his development.
