Manchester United have confirmed that long-serving defender Millie Turner has joined Birmingham City on a permanent transfer.
Turner leaves United after eight years, having made 189 appearances and scored 12 goals for the club.
Only Ella Toone has represented Manchester United Women more often since the team’s formation in 2018.
The centre-back was part of United’s first professional women’s squad and featured in every game as the club won promotion from the Championship during its inaugural campaign.
She later helped United lift the Women’s FA Cup in 2024 and became a popular figure among team-mates and supporters through her leadership and consistency.
United’s official announcement thanked Turner for her eight years of service, with director of women’s football Matt Johnson describing her contribution as “immense”.
Turner joins Birmingham in search of regular football
Turner’s opportunities became more limited last season, and United believe the permanent move gives her the chance to play more regularly at this stage of her career.
The 30-year-old arrives at Birmingham for an undisclosed fee and becomes an experienced addition to their defensive options. Birmingham’s announcement said she previously served as United captain and had established herself as one of the league’s most dependable defenders.
Her exit continues a period of change within Marc Skinner’s squad.
As Read Man Utd reported following Andrea Medina’s arrival, United have already strengthened their defence with the former Atlético Madrid player.
Lisa Naalsund has also completed a move to Birmingham, leaving United with further work to complete before the new Women’s Super League campaign.
Turner departs as one of the defining players in Manchester United Women’s short history. Her role in the club’s formation, promotion and first major trophy ensures her influence will remain long after her move.
