Eduardo Camavinga wants to remain at Real Madrid despite Manchester United discussing a possible summer move for the France midfielder.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Camavinga’s name has been mentioned during internal meetings at Old Trafford as United assess the final addition to Michael Carrick’s midfield.
However, there have been no negotiations between the clubs. The 23-year-old currently wants to stay in Madrid and compete for his place under José Mourinho.
The update follows the collapse of United’s pursuit of Aurélien Tchouaméni, who recently signed a new Real Madrid contract until 2031.
United have already added Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans this summer. Their remaining midfield search is focused on a mobile player capable of covering ground and offering protection behind the more creative options.
United should prioritise attainable midfield targets
Camavinga would provide the athleticism and versatility Carrick needs. He can operate as a defensive midfielder, a number eight or at left-back when required.
His preference to stay in Spain makes a move difficult, however. United would first need Camavinga to reconsider his future before approaching Real Madrid with a serious proposal.
Football365, relaying Romano’s update, reports that Roma midfielder Manu Koné is also under discussion and represents a more attainable option.
As Read Man Utd recently examined, Koné and João Gomes remain among the alternatives being considered after Tchouaméni committed his future to Madrid.
Camavinga’s quality makes the interest understandable, but United cannot allow another reluctant Real Madrid player to delay their rebuild. Unless his position changes, Wilcox may need to concentrate on Koné or another midfielder open to joining Carrick’s squad.
