Tottenham have been urged to make an ambitious move for Marcus Rashford, with former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara questioning why the club haven’t already asked Manchester United about a possible deal.
Spurs have spent heavily this summer, committing £230 million to strengthen their midfield and defence after narrowly avoiding relegation last season. O’Hara believes they should now turn their attention to the attack and go after a player he still considers one of the best around.
O’Hara wants Spurs to test Marcus Rashford situation
Tottenham have been linked with several attacking options, including Savinho and Cody Gakpo. O’Hara admitted he likes both players, but feels Marcus Rashford represents the bigger opportunity.
“I like Savinho. What I’ve seen of him, there have been bright sparks. It hasn’t massively worked for him at Manchester City, but he’s obviously a talented player”, O’Hara said while talking to Sky Sports.
“I like Gakpo, but the problem with him is he maybe needs four or five chances to score one, but he has got something about him. I wouldn’t be disappointed in the signing – he’s a player who I wouldn’t mind.
“I just don’t know why we don’t go for Marcus Rashford. I really think that Spurs should just go, how much do you want? How much can we get him for?”
Rashford’s future at Old Trafford has remained uncertain, although United head coach Michael Carrick has suggested the forward is still firmly part of his plans.
O’Hara feels Spurs could potentially get the best out of the England international if they can convince him to make the move.
“I know he’s on £350,000 a week, and obviously Spurs potentially can’t afford that, but he’s such a brilliant player.
“If you get him at it with a point to prove, I just think he’s still one of the best players around.
“If he stays at Man Utd, I think he’ll play, so I just don’t know why we’ve not been interested in him.”
The former Spurs man also believes Roberto De Zerbi could be the ideal manager to work with Rashford and help him rediscover his best level.
Marcus Rashford has already shown his quality
There is a strong case for O’Hara’s argument when looking at Rashford’s most recent campaign.
The United forward spent the last season on loan at Barcelona and finished with 14 goals and 14 assists across 47 appearances as the Catalan club won LaLiga.
Carrick, however, has already offered a positive update on Rashford since the forward returned to United.
“He’s our player, you know, and he’s come back great. He’s just like any other player,” Carrick explained. “I’ve known Marcus a long time and, you know, he gives us something a little bit different. And he’s been in great spirits since he’s been back.”
These comments suggest Manchester United aren’t actively trying to push Rashford out of the club.
