Manchester United have stepped up their search for another midfielder by making a formal enquiry about Monaco star Lamine Camara.
The Red Devils have already strengthened in the middle of the pitch this summer, but the club are still exploring the market for another option.
According to Football Fancast, United have contacted Monaco to establish the conditions required to sign the Senegal international.
Camara, who is only 22, has quickly attracted attention from several Premier League clubs. His performances have made him one of the more interesting midfield options currently available, although Monaco’s £65 million valuation could make negotiations difficult.
United check conditions for Lamine Camara deal
United’s initial enquiry doesn’t imply a transfer is close, but it does show that Camara is on the club’s wishlist. The midfielder has already earned 37 caps for Senegal and featured four times at the World Cup. He joined Monaco from Metz in 2024 for a reported £12.8m, having previously developed through several Senegalese academies before moving to France.
His style has also made him an attractive option for English clubs. Camara offers plenty of energy in midfield, can win the ball and is capable of moving his team forward with his passing.
He made 31 appearances across all competitions last season, contributing three goals and four assists.
Monaco, however, are in no rush to sell. Camara is contracted until 2029, leaving the Ligue 1 club in a strong negotiating position and allowing them to demand a significant fee for one of their key midfielders.
Crystal Palace already tested Monaco’s resolve
United aren’t the only Premier League side to have shown serious interest. Crystal Palace recently made an approach for Camara, with their verbal proposal reportedly worth £42.5m, which was rejected by Monaco.
If Monaco are unwilling to accept a bid at that level from Palace, Manchester United may have to consider a much larger investment to get a deal over the line.
Camara is reportedly open to leaving Monaco this summer, which could give interested clubs some encouragement. However, his contract situation means Monaco remain in control of the negotiations.
At this stage, though, Manchester United have simply asked for more information on a potential deal. With Monaco valuing the Senegal star at £65m and already rejecting a sizeable Palace offer, any move would require a serious financial commitment.
For now, Camara is another name on United’s midfield shortlist. The formal enquiry suggests the interest is genuine, but much more would need to happen before the 22-year-old is wearing a Manchester United shirt.
