Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Carlos Baleba from Brighton, with the Cameroon international putting pen to paper on a contract running until June 2031.
The deal also includes an option to extend his stay by another year, keeping Baleba at Old Trafford for potentially six seasons.
At just 22, Carlos Baleba already has plenty of Premier League experience behind him. He made 31 league appearances for Brighton last season as the Seagulls secured qualification for the UEFA Conference League.
Baleba was Brighton’s Young Player of the Season for 2024/25.
Baleba arrives with Premier League experience
His move to United brings a player who already knows exactly what it is like to face his new club. Baleba played in both of Brighton’s league meetings with United last season and came up against the Reds five times during his time on the south coast.
Overall, he leaves Brighton having made 112 appearances for the club, including 92 in the Premier League.
The midfielder also has international experience with Cameroon. He made his senior debut in June 2024 against Cape Verde and represented Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
‘It is an incredible feeling to join the club of my dreams. Playing at Old Trafford is always special but the opportunity to do so as a Manchester United player will be a real honour,’ Baleba said.
He is also looking forward to working under Michael Carrick.
‘I cannot wait to work with Michael Carrick; his experience and knowledge of the game make him the perfect coach to help me to reach the highest level.’
Baleba now joins United after establishing himself as one of Brighton’s most highly regarded players. Now, he will be looking to compete for a place in Carrick’s midfield.
