Michael Carrick warns Manchester United ahead of Everton test

Michael Carrick is expecting a difficult afternoon for his team when Manchester United travel to Everton on Sunday.

Manchester United go into the match after putting five goals past Ipswich Town last weekend, but Michael Carrick knows the trip to Hill Dickinson Stadium will be a completely different challenge.

The Everton crowd is likely to play a big part too. Carrick pointed to the atmosphere at Goodison Park in the past and the way the supporters can change the feel of a game very quickly.

“A tough game. Going to Everton away is always tough, and the game can change and flip so quickly with the supporters and the atmosphere they generate. We’re totally expecting that,” Michael Carrick said ahead of the game.

Michael Carrick also feels Everton deserve credit for the way they have started the new season. David Moyes’ side have made a solid beginning and will go into the meeting with confidence.

The United boss is particularly aware of the attacking threat Everton possess. He expects his players to be prepared for a side that can cause problems in the final third.

“They’ve had a good start and they’ve got some really good attacking players in the team, so we’re expecting a tough game.”

That is why Carrick does not believe United can afford to ease into the contest. The performance against Ipswich was encouraging, but another strong display will be needed to get anything from Everton. Manchester United can’t repeat a similar performance to their opening day defeat to Hull City.

“We’ve got to be close to, if not at, our best to get the result we want.”
