Manchester United have reportedly been given encouragement in their pursuit of David Raum, with the RB Leipzig captain open to a move to Old Trafford during the January transfer window.
Manchester United missed out on Lewis Hall during the transfer window and instead chose to stay with Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu. Injury to both of them has raised serious concerns for Michael Carrick. The club is expected to move for a left-back when the window reopens.
United did not sign a left-back during the summer and remain short of dependable options in the position. That has made the area a priority for Michael Carrick, with Raum now emerging as a serious target.
The Germany international is entering the final year of his Leipzig contract, which expires in 2027. TEAMtalk reports that United are among the strongest contenders for his signature, alongside Juventus.
David Raum open to Manchester United switch
David Raum joined Leipzig from Hoffenheim for €26million in 2022 and was handed the captaincy last year. His attacking style and experience make him an obvious fit for what United are looking for at left-back.
Sources close to the situation claim Raum has given the green light to a possible move to Manchester United should the club push ahead with their interest. He is also understood to be keen to experience the Premier League.
His contract situation could make a January deal possible. Intermediaries believe a fee of around £30million could be enough to open negotiations before Raum becomes free to discuss a pre-contract from January.
Leipzig are keen to avoid losing their captain for nothing and sporting director Marcel Schafer has confirmed that talks over a new deal are planned. No agreement has been reached, though, leaving the door open for United.
As of now, David Raum remains focused on his football under new Leipzig boss Martín Demichelis, but his future is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
